We’re Certified! Read All About What’s Next
Today, our union was officially certified! After the arbitrator confirmed our majority showing support last week, our union certification was officially issued today. So what’s next?
Getting Ready for Bargaining
First, we’re getting ready for bargaining! We are putting together a representative bargaining team that reflects the diversity of our work across job titles and branches. If you're interested in being part of the bargaining team or would like to learn more, please fill out this form here and an AFSCME rep will reach out to chat with you about the details of the role.
What are the responsibilities of being on the bargaining team?
- Attending virtual bargaining team prep meetings
- Bargaining training with AFSCME reps
- Attending in-person and virtual bargaining sessions
- Reviewing language in between bargaining sessions
- Consulting with coworkers on language and priority issues
If you have been interested in getting more involved with our union, have ideas about how to protect what’s great about FCPL and work on making things better, or are excited to represent your coworkers, please fill out the interest form!
Weingarten Rights (Right to Representation)
Second, everyone who is represented by our union now has Weingarten Rights – aka the right to representation.
What are Weingarten Rights?
If you are called into a conversation or meeting with a supervisor or manager that you believe could result in discipline, you should ask, “Could this meeting result in discipline?”
If the answer is anything besides “No,” you have the right to union representation and should call your union rep, Camden. Camden can be reached at 443-794-0077.
Join Local 6359 – (your future AFSCME Local) for a meeting!
